Snowman At Night
We have been discussing sequence of events in our stories.. The students are working hard to identify what happens at the beginning, middle and end of stories by using details and text evidence. As part of this practice, we read Snowmen at Night and created our own snowmen. They have brightened up our classroom:)
Sequencing Stories
We continue to talk about ways to stay healthy. This week our focus was on healthy foods. We read the story Jack & the Hungry Giant. The students worked hard to illustrate the story sequence and details. I am so proud of their hard work!
Writing
This week we continued our writing in our journals. The students learned about the many different types and colors of fruits and vegetables. They chose a food that they would like to try and wrote and illustrated about that food in their journals. We also have started our Empowering Writers Sentence a day curriculum. The students are learning that a sentence needs a noun (the who) and a verb (the doing) to make a sentence. Each week we read a series of short stories and then build and write our sentences in response to the story.
Math
This week in math we continue our work on finding combinations to make 10. The students used bears and ten frames to create multiple ways of making ten and worked on writing number stories to represent those combinations. The students also worked in partner pairs to work on shapes. They really enjoy working together!
